How To Identify Milk Silk Fabric

1) Combustion identification method

1. Near the flame: melts and curls.

2. Melting flame: curling, melting, burning.

3. Leaving the flame: burning, sometimes self-extinguishing.

4. Odor when burning: hair burning smell.

5. Residue characteristics: black, basically crunchy, but with a very small amount of hard lumps.


2) Dissolution identification method

When the milk protein fiber is heated at a constant temperature of 100 °C for 30 minutes in a 2.5% NaOH solution, the unique phenomenon of milk protein can appear.

State: During the whole process of dissolving, the volume of the fiber expands to a jelly-like shape, and the color will gradually change from the natural color to dark red, and then the dark red will fade to light yellow.

Analysis of the results: If there is a burning smell of hair just after the burning flame is extinguished and the dissolution result is consistent with the jelly-like and unique color reaction, the sample is milk protein fiber.
